Storm Fionn made a blustery appearance in Donegal yesterday evening with heavy snow showers and gale force winds. Scenes from Cnoc Fola show just how powerful his forceful winds were as they battered the coast.
A Donegal News reader, Iain Miller kindly sent in footage of the storm from around 4pm yesterday afternoon.
“There was 100km/hr westerly wind and 8.7m westerly swell combined with a low mid tide,” yesterday Iain explained. The strong winds and showers created a chaotic emulsified sea state, followed by heavy sleet showers.
A status yellow weather warning remains in place for Donegal as well as Galway, Leitrim, Mayo, Sligo, Clare, Cork, Kerry and Limerick.
“High or very high seas are going to affect the Atlantic Seaboard over the next few days, leading to an increased risk of coastal flooding,” a spokesperson from Met Eireann said on Monday last. The weather warning is in place until tomorrow morning at 9am.
Frost, ice and snow will largely clear at lower elevations by this afternoon, with sunny spells developing. Scattered showers will continue however some still wintry in the north and on higher ground.
The rain will spread further inland during the evening and possibly turn to sleet or snow over Donegal and the rest of Ulster, with cold temperatures dipping to 3 degrees.
