SOME schools around Donegal have taken the decision not to open tomorrow as the county prepares for the arrival of Storm Bram.
A Status Orange Wind warning has been issued by Met Éireann today ahead of Storm Bram and will be in effect in Donegal from 10am on Tuesday. The warning was due to end at 6pm on Tuesday evening, but that has now been extended to 9pm on Tuesday.
A Status Red Wind warning is in place along the Donegal coast. That warning takes effect from midday on Tuesday until 11.30pm on Tuesday night.
Parents and guardians are advised to keep an eye on their own schools’ social media pages in case of further school closures.
A number of local community events around Donegal are also likely to be impacted.
Met Éireann is advising of difficult travel conditions during tomorrow’s storms. Power outages are also expected.
Earlier today Donegal County Council activated their Severe Weather Assessment Team ahead of Tuesday’s forecasted storms.
Council officials say they are continuing to monitor the evolving situation and all Council resources are at a heightened state of readiness in response to this period of unsettled weather.
The Council has pre-deployed sandbags at a number of locations where it feels a risk may present given the predicted weather conditions.
