IT’S curtains up for the Ramelton Players as they bring their production of the Sam Cree classic ‘Stop it Nurse’ to the Town Hall this weekend.
Kicking off on Friday, November 8, the show, which is in aid of local football clubs Swilly Rovers and Ramelton Mariners, will run for three nights.
Doors will open at 7pm each night with curtains up at 8pm.
‘Stop it Nurse’ tells the story of opposing supporters who have an accident on cup final day.
Sammy Diver (Danny McLaughlin), an ardent Swilly Rovers supporter, and Felix Devlin (Eoghan Boyce), an equally ardent Ramelton Mariners supporter, are admitted to the same hospital ward leading to much antagonism.
Their hospitalisation ends the peaceful stay of the agreeable Bert Cooper (Martin Duffy) and Harold Smiley (James Friel).
Add to this the caustic Ward Sister (Michelle Friel), the playful nurse Freda (Maggie Durning), distressed Phyllis (Louise Duffy) and hospital visitor Miss Cherry (Catriona McCafferty) along with a few other hilarious characters such as the wrestler Mad McGurk (Dermott Mills), Bert’s wife Martha (Mary Diver), Bert’s bit on the side, Dolores Maxwell (Kerrianne Coyle) and Nurse Singh and Commentator (Tom Eagan) and you have a recipe for hilarious madness and mayhem all in the setting of the hospital ward from hell!
Directed by Damien Duffy, he has described the play as a “belly laugh”.
And with the help of lighting (Christopher and Joe Burney), costumes (Gerald McFadden), sound (Mick Geever) and a cast made up of some very well-known faces that are no stranger to the stage, a great night’s entertainment is guaranteed.
Tickets are €10 and can be purchased in McFadden’s Shop in Ramelton or at the door on the night. In the words of the director, no one will be turned away!
