Stolen van found on fire in Fanad

A stolen van was found on fire in Fanad.

Gardaí attended the scene of a road traffic collision at Ballykinard, Rosnakill, Fanad,  on Wednesday, December 11. They had been alerted to a vehicle on fire in the area at 7.35pm.

The fire service were extinguished the fire prior to the arrival of gardaí. Extensive damage had been caused.

The  vehicle was a black Citroen Berlingo, with a partial registration of ‘131 DL 25’.

Gardaí have said that no one was in the van or in the surrounding area when they arrived at the scene.

“The van had hit a stone bridge and it is believed to have been travelling from Fanad towards Kerrykeel at the time of the collision,” said a garda spokesperson.

“It was established that the van had been stolen from Ballymagowan Upper, Kerrykeel on Wednesday, December 11, sometime after 5pm and the time of the collision.

“We appeal to anybody who may have any information in relation to the theft of this van to make contact with Gardaí in Milford on (074) 9153060. If anybody observed it being driven between 5pm and 7.30pm, we ask them to contact Gardaí. If any road users travelled in the area of Ballykinard between 7pm and 7.35pm with a dash cam we ask them to get in touch with gardaí also.”
