The charity ‘Friends of Letterkenny University Hospital’ is set to benefit from a night of music and dance being held in the Clanree Hotel.
On September 20 singer Evelyn Gallagher will team up with long-time music partner Hugh McLean to perform all their best known songs and hits.
They will be joined by friends including the legendary Percy Robinson, John McHugh, Damian Duffy and Gary Porter. Among the special guests will be the Envoys Showband, one of the biggest draws of the dancehall era, and Highland Radio’s Tommy Rosney.
All proceeds from what is guaranteed to be a cracking night of entertainment will go to Friends of Letterkenny University Hospital, a charity that has raised over €7 million since it was established 27 years ago.
Encouraging the public to turn out and support the dance in the Clanree, charity director Paddy Rooney said such events are vital to the organisation’s survival.
“Fundraising events like this are hugely important,” Mr Rooney said.
“We get our money through three strands – corporate donations whereby businesses support us, unsolicited donations from members of the public and finally through events we run ourselves such as our church gate collections.
“A dance like this is part of the steady stream of unsolicited donations that we depend on and which are vitally important in enabling us to continue our work.”
The money raised from the dance on September 20 will go towards two projects, the first being an Endo Bronchial Ultrasound machine. The equipment will cost €200,000 and will be used by consultant respiratory physicians in Letterkenny hospital to assist them in the earlier diagnosis of serious respiratory disease including lung disease.
Friends of Letterkenny Hospital also run a bus on a regular basis to St Luke’s in Dublin, ferrying patients in need of cancer treatment to and from Donegal.
Evelyn Gallagher added, “It is going to be a great night of country music and dancing. At €10 it is great value with a whole host of top stars set to perform. And as well as a lovely evening out you will be supporting a very worthy cause.”
The dance in aid of the Friends of Letterkenny Hospital runs from 9pm to 12.30am on September 20. Admission is €10, payable at the door on the night.
