THE STAFF at a Donegal animal sanctuary have been left “shaken” after an individual attempted to steal their collection money last night.
Taking to social media to express their disgust, Donegal Donkey Sanctuary said the incident took place around 8:30pm last night.
“Around 8:30pm a white car dropped this individual off at the end of our road.
“He walked right up to our car park which is quite a distance and attempted to steal the collection tins at the car park.
“When confronted as to what he was doing he became very threatening and tried to stop me filming.
“As I followed him down the road the car sped off leaving him behind and he threatened me again by coming right up to me.
“I was very shaken at this stage and had no choice but to watch him walk away,” a spokesperson said.
Following the ordeal, Gardaí visited the sanctuary to take a statement.
“We are just devastated by this experience and cannot believe that something like this can happen at 8:30pm on a quiet summer evening,” the spokesperson continued.
“What sort of person tries to steal from an animal sanctuary?
“Just devastating,” they concluded.
Meanwhile, Gardaí say enquiries are on-going.
“Gardaí were alerted to an incident at a premises in Raphoe, County Donegal yesterday evening, Wednesday 25th June 2024.
“No items were taken from the premises.
“Enquiries are ongoing,” they concluded.
