TOWNS and villages across Donegal are putting the finishing touches to their St Patrick’s Day celebrations as the county gears up for a fun filled day.
With something happening in nearly every corner of the county, there is no excuse not to enjoy some of the festivities.
Here is a guide to what is happening in our towns and villages
Letterkenny
The parade will be jam packed with colourful floats from community groups, schools and businesses, while bands, dancers and will also take over the streets for an afternoon of fun. Entertainment along the Main Street starts from 1.45pm onwards with live music, photobooth and street entertainment.
Ballybofey
The annual Family Fun Day is being held this year again. With a Rodeo bull, ‘duck n dive’ inflatable obstacle course, bouncy castle, games, kids tractor run, Irish Dancers, trad music and more, the event will be bigger and better than ever before.
The first of its kind in Ballybofey, the St Patricks Day food fayre. Running alongside the family fun day and also based in Navenny carpark. Open from 12pm-4pm.
Creeslough
Everyone taking part in the parade to meet in the field behind the Chapel at 11am. Please note that in the interest of safety and in order to get the parade on to the Main Road, it would be appreciated if everyone wishing to watch the parade move up the street and leave the area around the Chapel clear for the parade to exit.
There will be disabled parking next to the Post Office. Prizes for the best floats and a prize for best decorated window along the Main Street. There will be a bucket collection to help with costs.
Holy Trinity NS St Patrick’s Day Breakfast
Holy Trinity NS, Dunfanaghy, will host a St Patrick’s breakfast fundraiser Morning in the Parish Hall Hornhead Road today (Thursday) from 8.30am until 12.30pm. Donations for breakfast, all proceeds in aid of Holy Trinity NS Outdoor Classroom and all are welcome.
Dunfanaghy
The St. Patrick’s Day Parade will be held on Friday at 1.30pm. All are welcome and the parade will leave as usual from Moore’s Garage.
Burtonport
The annual St Patrick’s Day celebrations takes place in the community centre tomorrow from 12 midday to 2pm. All types of entertainment.
Donegal Youth Service events
The local organisation will host a party in the LOFT on Friday featuring live music from some of the best up and coming bands such as Like Marigold and the Air Bears. There will be games, art, free finger food and soft drinks from 2pm to 6pm.
Gaoth Dobhair
Groups taking part are asked to assemble at Bunbeg Crossroads at 1pm. The parade will go through Bunbeg, Magheraclogher, Middletown and will end at Molloy’s Shop at Derrybeg.
Arranmore
After a three year break, the annual St Patrick’s Day of cultural celebration will take place this Friday in St Columba’s Community Centre from noon to 2pm, after mass. There will be music, Irish dancing, games, Irish stew and other foods served. It would be much appreciated if traditional fayre could be donated, such as boxty, scones, soda farls. Loads of amazing prizes and all monies raised will be shared between the RNLI, Burtonport Festival and Burtonport Community Centre.
Falcarragh/Gortahork
Cloughaneely Junior Band will be performing on St Patrick’s Day outside both Falcarragh and Gortahork Chapel as well as the St Patrick’s Day parade in Falcarragh.
Buncrana
The Buncrana St Patrick’s Day parade is being held at 3pm sharp. There be floats, dancers and entertainment.
Moville
The parade kicks off at 2.30pm with the David Craig Band playing in the Square from 2 to 5pm.
Ballyshannon/Bundoran
The Ballyshannon parade is at 2pm. Prizegiving event at 3pm in Dorrian’s Hotel, while a parade will take place in Bundoran at 3.30pm.
