A ST JOHNSTON man has marked his 60th birthday by raising more than €11,000 for a family who are currently in Holland where their young son is receiving specialist medical treatment.
Tony McBrearty celebrated his milestone birthday in Maggie’s Tavern in St Johnston, where he raised an amazing €11,750 for the McCrossan family. This money will very much help this family’s medical bills.
Four-year-old Zach from St Johnston has been diagnosed with a rare blood disorder, a high-risk myelodysplastic syndrome (MDS) that progresses to acute myeloid leukaemia (AML). His only chance is a bone marrow transplant, which isn’t available in Ireland.
Zach underwent stem cell transplant at the Princess Máxima Center for Pediatric Oncology in Utrecht, Netherlands, in July.
His family have set up a blog charting his journey, ‘Zach, Through Our Eyes’, which you can visit via https://www.zachmccrossan.ie/
Tony thanked everyone for both attending his party and their generous donations which will greatly help the McCrossan’s.
