St Eunan’s mourn the death of stalwart Charlie Harvey

The St Eunan’s GAA club are in mourning this evening following the sad passing of Charlie Harvey.

The late Mr Harvey was a dedicated member of St Eunan’s and a familiar face at O’Donnell Park.

His club paid tribute to him tonight on social media: “It is with a heavy heart that we share the news of the passing this evening of Club stalwart Charlie Harvey. Charlie was an ever present figure at O’Donnell Park over the last 50 plus years. A native of Lifford Charlie first came to Letterkenny and Rockhill House as a member of the Defence Forces in 1969.

“In 1974 he married the love of his life Cecilia Boyce from the Port Road and set up home in Conwal. From these early days Charlie began playing with St Eunan’s and helping out with all club activities. Over the years Charlie was always the first man to help out with any jobs that needed doing around the Park. Charlie enjoyed his morning walk from Conwal into O’Donnell Park and took immense pride in the developments at O’Donnell Park over the last 25 years.

“Charlie was always a cornerstone when it came to our now legendary House Draws. Charlie manned the ticket office at the Market Square in those early years of the House Draws. His good nature and witty personality was perfect for this role. He would go on to perform a similar role for his great friend Dr James Mc Daid when Charlie was the man in his election office directing everyone and making sure everyone was where they should be. Charlie was proud that “the doc” was in safe hands when Charlie was about.

“Charlie Harvey has certainly left his stamp on St Eunan’s and around O’Donnell Park. His love for the club has been passed down through the generations with his grandchildren now playing for the club at underage level. His sons Ollie and Cathal are among our most dedicated members, always the first to volunteer when a job needs to be done or tickets sold or money raised.

“To Cecilia, Ollie, Cathal and Sarah and extended family we offer our sincere condolences at this time.

“Ar dheis Dé go raibh a anam dílís.”
