On his recent trip to Ireland, Italian photographer Stefano Alberti from Milan captured St. Eunan’s Cathedral in Letterkenny in quite splendid lighting.
Staying at the Radisson Hotel in the town centre, Stefano rose at 5am while most of the town was still soundly asleep, to photograph the Cathedral at ‘the golden hour’.
Also known as the ‘the magic hour’ by photographers and cinematographers, this is the period of time just after sunrise or before sunset when the sun is significantly below the horizon giving the sky a soft and warm glow.
Stefano managed to capture a magnificent silhouette of the famous landmark standing tall over the town in the beautiful golden light.
In the evening again, at approximately 9.30pm he captured the cathedral at ‘the blue hour’ just after sunset.
The ‘blue hour’ occurs when the sun is far enough below the horizon that the sunlight’s blue wavelengths dominate.
In this photograph taken from the same angle as the first picture, you can see the different businesses such as The Bookmark, Sports Direct and Iceland bathed all in pink as the red sun goes down on the town.
With these long evenings you can see how the lights haven’t even been turned on yet.
The photos were taken on a long, hot and sunny day in Letterkenny, the beautiful weather making for stunning photography.
