St Eunan’s begin championship with a win over St Naul’s

St Eunan’s 1-14 St Naul’s 1-7

ST EUNAN’S got off the mark with a win on the opening weekend of the Donegal Senior Championship as they beat St Naul’s well at O’Donnell Park.

The Letterkenny side won with relative fuss but they were given a good game by the Division 3 winners who kept them to within three points until the final ten minutes.

Conor O’Donnell landed three first half frees along with two from Darragh Mulgrew and a point each from Kevin Kealy and Eoin McGeehin.

The St Naul’s points came from Peadar Mogan (2) and a free from Stephen Griffin and a Barry Griffin score from played made it 0-7 to 0-4 at half-time.

Ciaran Moore opened the scoring after the restart and O’Donnell landed three more frees with Griffin replying with two of his own, and Caolan Ward kicked a great score on his left foot.

Griffin and McGeehin exchanged points from dead balls, while St Naul’s got to withing three points again in added time as Griffin scored a penalty won by Joe Campbell, but McGeehin found the back of the net at the other end in the next move.

Niall O’Donnell, recently back from America, kicked the final score of the game to put the Letterkenny men onto two points after round 1.
