Spike in Donegal property sales – report

A NEW study based on an analysis of the Property Price Register shows that the number and value of sales in Donegal rose substantially in the first half of the year.

The study shows there were 404 transactions in the county between January 1, and the end of June, up 35 per cent on the 300 for the same six-month period last year.

The research, carried out by leading property website MyHome.ie, also found that €39.4m was spent on property here in the first half of the year. This was 43 per cent higher than the same period in 2013.

The most popular area to buy property in the county during the first half of the year was Letterkenny, where there were 85 sales recorded between January and June.

This was an increase of 85 per cent on the 46 sales in the town in the same period of last year. Letterkenny was also the most popular area to buy a home in during 2013, with 152 sales throughout the year.

Other notable increases were recorded in Donegal Town (340%), Muff (233%), Carndonagh (183%), Moville (100%), Newtowncunningham (100%), Buncrana (86%), Lifford (80%), Ramelton (50%), Rathmullan (25%) and Dunfanaghy (10%).
