A LETTERKENNY business has been served with a Closure Order by Environmental Health Service following evidence of a mouse infestation.
The closure order was served on Letterkenny Spiceland, Green Isle Park, Port Road, Ballyraine, Letterkenny on January 31.
Mouse droppings were found in the in the retail, storage and delivery areas of the shop as well as evidence of damage by mice to food and food packaging.
The local business was among four served with a closure order in January.
The inspector found that adequate procedures were not in place to prevent rodents gaining access to the premises. There was widespread evidence of a mouse infestation throughout the building.
The inspector said the findings could lead to a “serious risk” of food being contaminated with pathogenic bacteria likely to render the food unfit for human consumption. The Closure Order required all of the premises to be shut.
In its report to the Company Secretary, S & S XL Illistrin Ltd, Ballaghdergh, the inspector wrote: “Adequate procedures were not in place to prevent rodents gaining access to the premises. There was widespread evidence of a mouse infestation throughout the premises. Mouse droppings were found in the retail, storage and delivery areas of the shop.
“There was evidence of damage by mice to food and food packaging on the premises. On the evidence noted above there is or is likely to be a grave and immediate danger to health. The conditions noted could lead to a serious risk of food being contaminated with pathogenic bacteria likely to render the food unfit for human consumption.”
