THE nephew of retired councillor Ian McGarvey will be co-opted onto Donegal County Council as his replacement on Monday.
A special meeting of Donegal County Council is set to be held in Lifford at 11am.
It is understood Pauric McGarvey from Ramelton will be co-opted onto the council during the special Council meeting, while a number of other items are also on the agenda.
The date of co-option of Donegal’s newest councillor was agreed at the recent meeting of Donegal County Council in January.
It had been hoped that Mr McGarvey would have been co-opted onto the Council last month, however, regulations around Cllr Ian McGarvey’s retirement resulted in a delay to the process.
Mr McGarvey, who at 92 was Ireland’s oldest councillor, retired from politics last month after he held a seat since 2004.
He has been a passionate campaigner on multiple social issues through the years, often championing the cause of his hometown of Ramelton.
But he has also vocalised his frustration at the lack of progress, particularly in terms of planning, development and regeneration.
