A special event to celebrate the contribution of Dr. James McDaid to the world of medicine, sport and politics will take place in Letterkenny’s Mount Errigal Hotel in January.
The event takes place on Friday, January 19 and includes a four course dinner. Tickets, priced at €40, went on sale this week.
It’s a night that is sure to draw a big crowd as the community gets its chance to say thanks to a man who contributed so much as a politician and a highly respected GP.
He retired as a doctor from Scally Practice in Letterkenny in June after practicing in medicine for over 50 years.
Earlier this year, his contribution to St. Eunan’s GAA club was celebrated when the club officially named the stand at O’Donnell Park in his honour.
Dr. McDaid’s 21-year political career began in 1989 when he was elected as a TD for the Donegal North East constituency.
His time in politics was not without controversy, but during his time in government, he helped deliver vital funding for a host of sports clubs, groups and organisations in his home county.
He was Minister for Tourism, Sport and Recreation from 1997 to 2002 and served as Minister of State for Transport from 2002 to 2004.
Tickets for the event can be purchased at Sister Sara’s in Letterkenny or the Mount Errigal Hotel on 074 91 22700.
