CELEBRATIONS took place in the Lakehouse Nursing Home, Portnablagh on Thursday last as Sarah Doherty, formerly of Kinnelargy Downings, celebrated her 105th birthday.
She was joined for the celebrations by her two daughters, Nuala and Mary Josephine, along with family and friends who, with Covid restrictions now fully lifted at the nursing home, were able to gather together for the first time in three years to make it such a special day for Sarah.
Sarah is now one of the oldest people living in the county and according to records, there are only 25 other people older than her in the whole of Ireland.
She is an amazing woman who remains remarkably fit and healthy and is always ready with a smile and a joke.
She thoroughly enjoyed the day’s celebrations and was delighted to receive a commemorative medal from the President of Ireland, Michael D Higgins which was presented to her by Jennifer Rankin, Director of Nursing at the Home.
Jennifer said she was proud to present the medal to Sarah on behalf of the President and added her and the staff’s congratulations to Sarah.
It’s a measure of how much the staff care for Sarah that some of them came to the home that day even though it was their day off, in order to see Sarah celebrate her birthday.
The staff worked hard to make the day such a special one.
There was plenty of food and treats for the guests and Geraldine played music and sang throughout the day.
Sarah had a lovely day and her daughters would like to extend their thanks to everyone at the Lakehouse who made the day so special and for all the ongoing hard work they do and all the care they give to their mother.
