Spanish guitar genius in Letterkenny

Eduardo Niebla the great Spanish guitarist who is playing the Regional Cultural Centre this Friday.

ONE of the world’s greatest guitarists, Eduardo Niebla returns to Donegal for what promises to be a spellbinding concert at the Regional Cultural Centre, Letterkenny, tonight (Friday).

It’s been a long time since the wonderful flamenco jazz virtuoso arrived on the UK music scene in the 70’s to explore new musical roads.

He returns to Ireland on an eleven-night nationwide tour to present his passionate and exquisite musical fusion, a sophisticated mix of flamenco and Latin jazz intertwined with classical traditions, Eastern colours and a gypsy jazz edge.

It’s music, which has been influenced by Eduardo’s many collaborations over the years, including George Michael, Craig David, the Dante String Quartet, Indian maestro Nishat Khan and the Rajasthani gypsies in Jaipur.

It is the very lyrical and poignantly poetic quality of his playing, as well as his phenomenal guitar technique, which makes each performance incredibly moving and invigorating.

Since turning professional in 1973, Eduardo has recorded 23 albums of his original compositions and has written music for films, documentaries and plays, including for the BBC.

His concert appearances have included the Olympic Games Greece, Glastonbury and the Brecon International Jazz Festivals, as well as concert tours to South Africa, Jordan, Lebanon, Switzerland, Austria, Germany, Italy, Hungary, Spain, Ireland and the UK.

The Eduardo Niebla concert at the RCC commences at 8pm. Tickets priced €12 and €10 concession are available at An Grianán Box Office on 074 9120777.
