South Donegal has been hit with a ‘disastourous’ flood following heavy rainfall and a high tide yesterday evening.
Homes, businesses and a primary school in Killybegs were all seriously effected. Donegal County Council and the Fire Service were assisting the public from around 6pm yesterday.
Fintra Primary School were helped by local residents to fend off water from the school gym with mops, buckets and sandbags.
Councillor Thomas Pringle’s constituency office was one of the businesses severely flooded in the Bridge Street area.
Main roads coming in and out of Killybegs were also flooded, with local councillors urging residents to stay home and not leave home unless absolutely necessary.
Councillor Noel Jordan described the flooding as ‘pure devastation’ for households and business owners on the Bridge Street.
