‘Someone has dropped the ball’ – Untidy areas raised by councillor

By Diarmaid Doherty

A LETTERKENNY councillor has urged Donegal County Council’s roads management team not to take the eye off the ball when it comes to keeping areas of the town tidy and maintained.

Cllr. Ciaran Brogan pointed to different locations in the town which need attention because of overgrown weeds and general neglect.

He highlighted the Oldtown Bridge as one example as well as the parking bay at the footpath on the Kiltoy Road.

He raised his concerns at last week’s Letterkenny and Milford Municipal District budget meeting.

“I asked our Director of Service Liam Ward as a matter of urgency to facilitate a meeting with our own roads management team and Tidy Towns in order to address these areas that have been allowed to get into terrible condition,” he said.

“Something needs to happen here as a matter of urgency because I’ve never seen these areas like this ever before.

“We’ve always prided ourselves as a council in the whole area of recreation and amenities and invested hugely in this area over the years.

“I want to acknowledge the great work our Tidy Towns volunteers are doing on a weekly basis but someone has dropped the ball here when this is allowed to happen.

“I’m asking that our roads management team and our outdoor team meet as a matter of urgency to overcome this so that we can continue to prioritise the areas most in need of attention.”
