LARGE numbers of ESB customers in Donegal are today entering a fourth day without power after Storm Amy ravaged the county on Friday afternoon.
It is likely that many homes, farms and businesses in the county will remain without power until the early part of this week.
The extreme, damaging and destructive winds associated with Storm Amy caused widespread and extensive damage to the electricity network.
As of yesterday there were approximately 7,000 customers without power across the county.
A spokesperson for the ESB has said their crews have been working in challenging conditions to restore power to homes, farms and businesses across Donegal since Storm Amy made landfall on Friday.
Their crews were mobilised and working tirelessly across the county all weekend in an attempt to restore power.
“However, some customers in small pockets of Donegal may be without power into the early part of next week,” the spokesperson added.
In a statement released yesterday, The National Directorate for Fire and Emergency Management revealed that Donegal was the worst-affected county by this storm.
The county’s water supply also remains under significant pressure in the wake of Storm Amy with over 4,000 homes without water.
Uisce Éireann crews were working throughout the weekend, assessing and restoring water services.
Their focus yesterday was on The Haw in Lifford, Fintown, Ramelton, Rathmullen, Kerrykeel and LeghawnyCullionboy, where the storm had the greatest impact.
“We had our incident management process in place before storm Amy hit, along with crews mobilised to maintain and restore supplies.
“We also deployed mobile and fixed generators to restore power and restore plants to production. The crews worked tirelessly to address supply disruptions and to get water back to our customers,” said Uisce Éireann’s, Regional Operations Manager, Anthony Skeffington.
