WITH large numbers of homes and businesses entering a second night without power, ESB Networks say it could be early next week before some customers have power restored.
ESB crews have been working throughout the day in extreme conditions to restore power to customers following Storm Amy.
The ESB said heavy winds continued to cause disruption to the electricity network overnight.
Here in Donegal, the strong winds are continuing this evening.
Farms, homes and businesses all around the country have been impacted by power outages, predominantly in counties Donegal, Leitrim, Roscommon, Galway and Mayo.
The ESB say that more than two-thirds of customers who lost power due to the storm have now had their supply restored.
“We expect to continue to make significant progress and believe that the majority of customers who do not have their supply restored today will have power restored by tomorrow night,” a spokesperson said.
“However, some customers in the worst affected areas may be without power into the early part of next week. This is likely to include some customers in Donegal, which saw the highest wind speeds recorded during Storm Amy, and in areas across the north west.”
Estimated restoration times will be updated on www.Powercheck.ie There may be a further update to restoration times tomorrow for smaller groups of customers as repair works continue.
The ESB are urging members of the public who may come across fallen wires or damaged electricity network, never, ever touch or approach these as they are LIVE and extremely dangerous. Please report any damage to electricity infrastructure by calling 1800 372 999.
