The turning of the sod on the Lifford to Castlefinn greenway has taken place and a contractor has been appointment for the project.
Cathaoirleach of the Lifford-Stranorlar Municipal District, Councillor Patrick McGowan, accompanied by Councillor Gary Doherty, Councillor Martin Harley and Councillor Gerry Crawford, turned the first sod on the 7.5km long greenway.
The project is being funded through the Interreg VA Programme, administered by the Special EU Programmes Body, and the Department of Transport.
Donegal County Council has appointed ACS Civils Ltd as Contractor for the project with work due to commence on site this month.
A spokesperson for the local authority said: “Donegal County Council wishes to express its gratitude to all residents and landowners along the route for their continued engagement and positive involvement in the project which has been instrumental in bringing the project to this stage.”
