AN anti-social behaviour hotspot at Killylastin in Letterkenny is to be developed for housing.
The social housing scheme will comprise of eleven homes – six two bedroom apartments, three two bedroom houses and two three bedroom properties.
It will be built on a corner site between An Gleann Rua and Windmill View.
Donegal County Council tabled the plans before this week’s meeting of the local authority.
Members unanimously backed the proposal with Councillor Ciaran Brogan describing it as a welcome move.
“It is an unused piece of council land that has been vacant for years.
“It is creating a bit of an eyesore and this will clear that up. Thank you to the housing department for their work on this,” said Councillor Brogan.
Donegal County Council recently carried out a public consultation on the Killylastin development.
It drew five submissions with a number of observers highlighting how the vacant plot has been the subject of anti-social activity in the past.
A spokesperson for the council said they hope the new builds will bring a halt to the problems residents in the area have faced.
“The proposal will provide active frontage and passive surveillance along the adjoining roads,” said the local authority.
They added that the scheme will provide “high quality and sustainable homes under the Government’s Rebuilding Ireland Action Plan”.
