THE future of the Ulster Senior League has been thrown into doubt following confirmation that Drumkeen United will not participate in the new league season which kicks off at the end of August.
The decision was taken at a club meeting last night and means that just six teams – Letterkenny Rovers, Fanad United, Swilly Rovers, Cockhill Celtic, Bonagee United and Derry City Reserves – will play in the 2015/16 USL season.
“Drumkeen United wishes to announce that we will not be in a Position to take part in the forthcoming seaon of the Ulster Senior League. It is with deep regret that we take this decision but we quite simply do not have enough players of the calibre necessary to compete at that level, We wish to apologise to the Ulster Senior League for any inconvenience caused and we wish them all the best for the Season ahead,” a club statement read.
Matches in the Donegal News League Cup on Sunday, August 30 and Wednesday, September 2, will signal the start of the new campaign.
