More snow, ice and wind for Donegal

 

A snow and ice warning has been put in place for Donegal, as well as a wind warning with winds expected to reach 60km/h. 

The status yellow weather warning was issued today and will take effect from 3am tomorrow morning, with many roads in Donegal to be gritted tonight.

The following routes will be gritted from 9pm tonight: 

02: National Primary Central 
05: Inishowen East 
09: Cill Ulta East 
12: Binswilly
15: Stranorlar West 
18: Donegal South

Snow and ice are expected in counties Donegal, Cavan, Louth, Leitrim and Monaghan with the warning lasting until 3pm tomorrow afternoon. Meanwhile strong Northwesterly winds could be felt across Donegal, Galway, Clare, Kerry, Cork, Mayo, Leitrim and Limerick until midnight tomorrow night.  

“Tomorrow will be a cold, very blustery and showery day. The showers will be mainly over the west and north during the morning but they will extend nationwide in the afternoon with occasional hail and sleet and some snow on Northern hills. Some thunder is likely also. Highest temperatures of 4 to 7 degrees in strong and gusty West to Northwest winds with gales in exposed coastal areas,” Met Eireann have said. 

Motorists are urged to take care on the roads this evening and tomorrow morning, leaving plenty of time in the morning to de-frost your vehicle. Road users are reminded to assume that no road is ice free and reduce their speed when driving tomorrow.
