Two status yellow weather warnings have been issued for the entire country, as Donegal expects more snow and ice overnight, as well as thundery downpours.
A snow and ice weather warning will be effective from 3am tomorrow morning until 10am, while a weather advisory warning for wet and windy conditions will be valid from 6pm tonight.
A spokesperson from Met Eireann said: “Air temperatures will fall to freezing or below later tonight and early tomorrow morning, with widespread frost and ice on untreated surfaces. Scattered wintry showers also, these mainly in west Ulster, Connacht and west Munster.
“A spell of wet and windy weather, with thundery downpours, will sweep eastwards over the country during Monday evening and night. Gusts between 90 and 110km/h will occur in Atlantic, southern and later eastern coastal fringes for a time. Some accumulations of snow are possible during the period also.”
AA Roadwatch have advised motorists to slow down when driving tonight and tomorrow excess water on roads could effect breaking distances.
“When driving on wet roads, remember to slow down and increase your braking distance. In windy conditions, high-sided vehicles are especially vulnerable on open or exposed roads. Be particularly mindful of pedestrians, cyclists and motorcyclists.”
Donegal County Council have confirmed all roads will be gritted from 5pm this evening, however have told road users to assume no road is ice free.
