Slow start as Donegal goes to polls

DONEGAL voters went to the polls yesterday (Thursday) to elect Ireland’s 9th President and constitutional referendums on cutting judicial pay and whether to give Oireachtas Committees powers of investigation.
The counting of votes will begin this morning (Friday) at the Aura Leisure Centre in Letterkenny and Finn Valley athletic centre in Stranorlar.
By lunchtime yesterday the turnout around the county varied from 8 to 12 per cent. By close of polls it will be known if the turnout will exceed the 40 per cent turnout in Donegal for the last presidential election in 1997.
