THERE has been a slight improvement in the condition of Donegal Senator Jimmy Harte who was found unconscious in a Dublin street with life-threatening head injuries.

A family member told the Donegal News: “There has been some minor improvements today. Doctors will carry out more tests later, so we will know more after that.
“Jimmy is susceptible to blackouts and this seems to have been a very unfortunate accident,” the family member said.

He also took the opportunity to thank the hundreds of people from all over the country who sent their good wishes to the popular Senator’s family.

Senator Harte is said to be in a medically induced coma in Beaumont Hospital which medical staff would try to wake him from either today or tomorrow.

While he is gravely ill, the outlook for him is said to be “positive.”

Senator Harte (55) had been attending the Republic of Ireland v Latvia football international friendly at the Aviva stadium with his daughter Amy Rose as well as other family members on Friday evening.

He went out socialising in the city with them after the game. It is believed he returned on foot to an apartment in Dublin 8, which he owns and lives in when in Dublin.

A large volume of CCTV footage captured in the area of Newmarket Square, Dublin 8, where Mr Harte was found, has been studied.

Detectives say all of the evidence that has emerged has suggested there was nobody else on the street at the time of the fall or in the immediate vicinity.
