Sinn Féin are remaining optimistic regarding the party’s choice to field a third candidate in Donegal.
A first count is anticipated to take place soon but with the final tally figures in, it looks like Sinn Féin’s outgoing TD Pearse Doherty set to top the poll.
According to the final tally Sinn Féin hold 42% of the overall vote in Donegal.
Tally figures indicate, Doherty has 23.3% of the vote in Donegal. Padraig MacLochlainn is also on 13.5%.
Both outgoing TD’s are in a comfortable position, however their third candidate Cllr Noel Jordan is falling behind with the tally indicating he has 4.3% of the vote.
Sinn Féin councillor Jack Murray has said it is going to be a difficult climb for Cllr Jordan, but it is far from impossible.
He said that the party are still in the fight for the final seat, with the transfers from Pearse Doherty’s surplus playing an important role.
“We hope that given there is a lot of people to be eliminated, that Noel is still in the fight.”
“If we don’t take it we won’t be far away,” he said.
