INISHOWEN Sinn Féin councillor Jack Murray has welcomed confirmation that Donegal County Council is to open a number of its buildings as collection points for the public to donate clothes and other items to the refugees in Calais.
Cllr Murray who is the Donegal contact for the Ireland Calais Refugee Solidarity group said the recent harrowing images of refugees drowning in European waters captured the attention of so many people in Ireland.
“It drove home the desperation that these people are faced with and I was contacted by many, many people who wanted to help.
“As such, I contacted the Chief Executive of Donegal County Council and requested that our facilities are used as donation points for the Ireland Calais Refugee Solidarity.
