ON Wednesday last the Cathaoirleach of Donegal County Council Cllr. Ciaran Brogan signed contracts for the commencement of work on the Mullantiboyle Bridge, Glenties.
Mullantiboyle is a twin span concrete bridge of which one span collapsed in 2010.
The bridge provides a vital link around the town and following a sustained campaign by local residents for its reinstatement, Donegal County Council was delighted to receive funding in March this year to replace this dilapidated bridge with a new wider 25m single span structure and associated works.
The bridge was designed by Roughan and O’Donovan Consulting Engineers and following a tendering process, the Council has appointed Ward and Burke Construction Ltd to undertake this work which will cost in the region of €520,000 excluding VAT.
Works on site are now imminent and the bridge will be completed in early 2016.
