DONEGAL senior panelists Michael Boyle, Antoin McFadeen, Leo McLoone and Eoin Waide were celebrating on Wednesday after their respective colleges took wins in their Sigerson Cup quarter-finals.
McFadden scored 1-1 and Boyle made a brilliant penalty save in DCU’s 1-14 to 0-7 win over DIT.
McFadden netted in the first-half when he got on the end of a sweeping move by DCU, the St Michael’s man cracking a superb finish to give his team breathing space.
DCU were 1-8 to 0-2 ahead at the break and any hopes of a DIT comeback were quashed by Boyle. The Termon goalkeeper made a superb diving save to beat away Alan Freeman’s well-hit penalty.
Sub ‘keeper Rob Hennelly advised Boyle that his Mayo colleague would go to the bottom right and Boyle listened to make a magnificent save.
Also going to the Sigerson finals weekend in Galway will be Glenties duo Leo McLoone and Eoin Waide. McLoone hit a point and Waide also played for UUJ in their 0-12 to 1-6 win over NUIG.
There was no such joy for Mark McHugh and IT Sligo, who were beaten 2-7 to 0-11 by defending Sigerson champions UCC.
