THE 42-year-old man who was shot in in the Glenswilly area has been named locally.
Mr Gerard Sweeney, a native of Glendowan, sustained injuries to his face and shoulder following the shooting incident at Ballinakillew on Saturday morning.
Mr Sweeney, was taken to Galway’s University Hospital where he was to receive treatment for pellet wounds in his face.
The scene of the shooting about a mile from Templedouglas Graveyard was examined by forensic officers on Saturday afternoon.
Garda investigations are continuing today following the incident which has shocked the area.
A local man is helping gardai with their enquiries. Locals say the incident happened as a result of an alleged row over a right of way.
A firearm was reported to have been discharged twice during the dispute.
