LIFFORD’S Shay Given has joined Championship side Middlesbrough this evening on loan for a month.
The 37-year-old former Republic of Ireland International will go straight into the squad for Saturday’s game against Bolton Wanderers at the Riverside.
New head coach Aitor Karanka brought him in from Aston Villa.
Should he make his Boro debut, he will become one of a select band of players to have played for Boro, Newcastle and Sunderland where he spent time on loan in 1996 making 17 appearances.
He made 461 appearances for Newcastle spread over a 12-year stay before moving to Manchester City for just short of £6m on transfer deadline day in January 2009.
After making 69 appearances for City, Given moved on to Aston Villa for a reported £3.5m in the summer of 2011. He has so far made 43 appearances for the Villans.
