SHAUN McShane is back in action this weekend looking to get back to winning ways after a defeat in his previous bout, but John Hutchinson has suffered the disappointment of a planned fight having been called off at the eleventh hour.
On Friday night, Dungloe man McShane faces John Green at Ravenscraig in Motherwell, Scotland.
Hutchinson had been set to line up at The Venue in Dudley, in the English West Midlands, but on Thursday night the ‘Buncrana Banger’ confirmed that the contest was shelved ‘due to problems with opponents at the last minute’.
“I am rescheduled for July so the camp will not be wasted,” he said. “I will be straight into heavy training for a few more hard weeks.”
McShane had a change of opponent, with Greene, who hails from Middlesbrough now set to face the west Donegal man.
McShane lost his last bout to Marek Laskowski in Paisley. He had a debut win against Ryan Love in February, but was pipped 58-56 on points by Polish fighter Laskowski.
The Donegal man is looking to get back on track.
“I’ve had a few ups and downs and have been busy at work, but I’ve had some good spars so hopefully they’ll do the trick for me,” McShane told the Donegal News.
“The road work has been cut back because I’ve had to get cartilage trimmed on my knee. Hopefully I’ll be all cleared up on Friday and get the shot on the road.”
While McShane has had just two previous pro bouts, Green will be boxing professionally for only the second time when he squares up to McShane, having beaten Sid Razaj a few weeks ago in Darlington.
Light-welterweight McShane said: “I had been training to fight a southpaw, but this guy is orthodox.
That shouldn’t be a big issue. I’m looking forward to it now.”
Meanwhile, Carndonagh’s Michael ‘Owen’ McLaughlin (8-1-1) will fight for the New England welterweight title on July 26th at the Royale Nightclub, Boston, Massachusetts. McLaughlin has won his last six fights – including April’s win over Pedro Gonzalez in Dorchester – but will now meet Sam Girard (17-7-1) in Boston.
Girard is coming out of retirement at 42, but is a vastly experienced boxer who counts Floyd Mayweather Jnr among his former opponents. Back in February 1998, Mayweather scored a second round stoppage against Mayweather at the Ballys Park Place Hotel Casino, Atlantic City.
“This will be my toughest test yet,” McLaughlin said.
