PROSPECT Boxing’s Paul Graham felt that Shaun McShane was unlucky not to be awarded a win against John Green on Friday night.

The 33-year-old west-Donegal man had his light-welterweight clash with Green scored a draw, 38-38.

The bout, at the Ravenscraig Regional Sport Facility in Motherwell, evolved into a stirring brawl, with both boxers giving their all. Former Dungloe ABC boxer McShane emptied the tank in front of an attendance of around 1,000 thrilled boxing fans.

“McShane was unlucky not to get the victory,” promoter Graham said afterwards.

“I thought he maybe could have nicked it but we’ll take the result. There’s no point putting him in with anyone that he won’t learn from because he’s 33 and he needs good fights.”

Glasgow-based McShane has now won one, drawn one and lost one of his three pro fights following the drawn four-rounder with Green. He had a winning debut against Ryan Love in February, but lost out to Marek Laskowski in his next bout.

McShane was happy enough with Friday’s contest, a fight he called ‘a great war’.

“I feel I edged it by a round, but the two of us absolutely fought our hearts out,” McShane said.

“Green was a tough opponent. I have a wee break now, I’ve enjoyed the experience so far. Hopefully I’ll get a few more fights soon again.”
