EMERGENCY services are at the scene of a serious traffic accident near Letterkenny this morning (Wednesday).
The accident happened around 8.30pm at Breenagh, Glenswilly, on the main Letterkenny-Glenties road close to the former Trenkeel National School.
The vehicles were a Ford Transit and a Peugot Expert.
A woman and child were in one vehicle while workmen had been travelling in another. Speaking to the Donegal News, Senior Assistant Chief Fire Officer, Mr Sean Campbell, confirmed five people had been injured in the accident.
Four ambulances rushed to the scene from Letterkenny General Hospital along with two fire tenders. Fire crews had to use cutting equipment to free the injured.
The accident happened with a hundred yards on the Glenties side of the well known McFadden’s store at Breenagh near the turn off to Brocagh.
Traffic diversions are in place and the main road is closed with motorists from the Glenties direction being directed towards Kilpheak and Glenswilly chapel.
