A SERIES of thefts in the Letterkenny area at the weekend are the most recent to add to a long list of incidents of burglaries and thefts which appear to be reaching epidemic proportions in the county.
The Garda Press Office has confirmed to the Donegal News that tools, cash and a television were stolen in three separate incidents in Letterkenny.
A garda spokesperson confirmed they are investigating three burglaries.
The first relates to the theft of a TV from McGinley’s Bar on Lower Main Street.
They also confirmed that a house on Lower Main Street was broken into and a quantity of cash was stolen and on Saturday at Carrygawley, a shed was broken into at about 2am and a number of tools were stolen.
Meanwhile, a 20 year old Letterkenny man is due to appear before Sligo court this morning (Monday) in connection with the burglary at the home of an elderly woman in Kilmacrennan on Friday.
Matthew Lafferty appeared at a special sitting of Sligo District Court on Friday evening.
He was charged with criminal damage and also breaking and entering at an address at Kilmacrennan on January 18.
Lafferty who is originally from Letterkenny but with an address at Ballyheerin, Kilmacrennan, applied for bail.
