A SENIOR Garda has appealed to members of the public to exercise some common sense following a spate of thefts from unattended cars in Termon and Kilmacrennan last night.
Inspector Michael Harrison was speaking after cash as well as valuable electrical items were stolen from the cars, a large number of which were unlocked.
In the Termon estate, six unlocked cars were entered and a small amount of cash was stolen from a number of them.
Meanwhile, at the Lennon View estate in Kilmacrennan, seven of the 21 parked cars were unlocked. Items stolen from the cars there included a laptop computer, a sat nav as well as a sum of cash.
Inspector Harrison warned that people are leaving to much valuables in their cars, and not locking them, despite previous appeals against such behaviour.
“This is causing particular problems for Gardai as these people (thieves) are very hard to track down. People are leaving far too much stuff in their cars and this makes easy pickings for these boys. People should be more vigilant and not make it so easy for thieves,” he said.
