GARDAÍ have issued security advice to the public after recent burglaries in Donegal.
In one incident, a hot water cylinder and associated copper piping were stolen from a vacant house in Letterkenny.
The burglary occurred on the Kilmacrennan Road at Knocknamona between August 23 and September 21. Entry was gained to the property via a rear door but no damage was caused.
“We appeal to anybody who may have observed any type of suspicious activity in that area over the past few weeks to get in touch with gardaí,” said Garda Sarah McDermott from Buncrana Garda Station. “Any relevant information should be passed on to Gardaí in Letterkenny on 074-9167100.”
Separately, tractor batteries were stolen from a business premises in Lifford.
The burglary occurred on the Ballyduff Road between 6pm on Friday, September 8 and 1pm on Saturday, September 19. Damage was caused to a door of the building and a window was smashed. Entry was gained to the office area but nothing was stolen from within. Two batteries were stolen from a tractor that was parked outside the premises.
“We appeal to anybody who may have observed any type of suspicious activity, vehicles or people in that area between those times to get in touch with us,” said Garda McDermott. “Any relevant information should be passed on to Gardaí in Letterkenny on 074-9167100. Any relevant information may alternatively be passed on to Gardaí via the Confidential Line on 1800 666 111.”
As the evenings are getting dark earlier, gardaí are asking all homeowners to ensure that they have adequate lighting around their homes, particularly when the house will be unoccupied.
“Please ensure that all windows and doors are secure and do not leave large amounts of cash in your house,” said Garda McDermott. “Always report any suspicious activity that you may observe to gardaí immediately.”
