Second public meeting over Ramelton project

A SECOND public meeting will be held in Ramelton next week in order for the local community to get clarifications from Donegal County Council about a regeneration plan for the town.

Locals and business people attended a public meeting in Quayside Bistro on Tuesday night when concerns were voiced about the new Ramelton Re-imagined project.

Ramelton Re-imagined is a restorative and transformational town centre regeneration project comprising of multiple public realm interventions that will transform the public spaces within the historic town core of the Heritage Town of Ramelton and will consequently enhance the physical, environmental, social and economic capacity of the town.

The topics discussed on the night included the continuing of the Lennon Festival and the continuing of lighting up Ramelton at Christmas once the changes to the town have been made.

Speaking at the public meeting, local business man, PJ Bonnar said the locals are listening to speculation every day of the week and they just want some clarification.

Concerns raised at the meeting included the use of the Bing during the Lennon Festival for events like ‘The Fling on the Bing’. With no other area in the town suitable for the event, locals are afraid the event will have to be scrapped.

New kerbing at Gamble Square and very advanced decay on derelict buildings were among the other topics discussed.

Cathaoirleach of Donegal County Council, Cllr Liam Blaney was in attendance on the night, however no final plans were produced at the meeting.

With no further clarifications, a second public meeting is due to be held on Monday, December 12 at 6pm in the Town Hall  in Ramelton.
