Second person dies following Carndonagh collision 

THE mother of a six-year-old girl who was killed in a tragic road collision in Carndonagh yesterday evening has passed away in hospital.

The woman, aged in her 20s, was the driver of a car that collided with a van on the R240 at Carrowmore, Glentogher just before 6.30pm yesterday evening.

One of her daughters was pronounced dead at the scene, while all other occupants of the car were taken to Altnagelvin Hospital in Derry for treatment.

She was later transferred to the Royal Victoria Hospital in Belfast where she succumbed to her injuries this evening.

Her young daughter, who was a rear passenger, was also transferred to the Royal Victoria Hospital in Belfast and is being treated for non-life-threatening injuries.

A male front seat passenger (30s), believed to be her partner, remained in Altnagelvin Hospital in Derry and is being treated for non-life-threatening injuries.

A garda spokesperson said: “The road was closed for a technical examination by Forensic Collision Investigators and has since reopened.”

Meanwhile, gardaí are appealing to anyone who may have witnessed this collision to contact them.

“Any road users who may have camera footage (including dash-cam) and were travelling in the area between 6pm and 6.30pm on Wednesday, July 2, 2025, are asked to make this footage available to investigating gardaí,” a garda spokesperson continued.

“Anyone with information is asked to contact Buncrana Garda Station at 074 932 0540, the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666 111, or any Garda Station.”
