Second man charged in connection with Letterkenny arson

A SECOND man has been remanded in custody in connection with a fire at an apartment and retail complex at Upper Main Street, Letterkenny on Thursday.

Owen McFadden (40) Falcarragh appeared before a special court sitting of Sligo Court at 10.30 this morning, Saturday. He was remanded in custody to Letterkenny Court on Monday.

He was charged on ten different charges including nine of burglary and one of criminal damage.

Twenty four earlier, Paul McGinley (30) from Glen Hola, Gortahork, appeared before a special sitting of Letterkenny District Court having been arrested in relation to the incident on Thursday evening.

 Nine cars were destroyed in the incident as well as considerable smoke damage to a bakery and clothing store.
 
 On Friday, Judge Paul Kelly heard evidence from Garda Emmett Brady who charged McGinley on ten different charges including nine of burglary and one of criminal damage.
 
 Inspector Goretti Sheridan told the court she was objecting to bail because of the seriousness of the charges and said more serious charges were to follow.
 
McGinley also was remanded in custody and will appear before Monday’s sitting of Letterkenny District Court.
