Searches are on-going in Glenfin for the remains of Arlene Arkinson

SEARCHES are continuing today in East Donegal for the remains of Arlene Arkinson.

The Tyrone schoolgirl was only 15 years old when she disappeared after going to a disco in Bundoran in August, 1994.

However, it wasn’t until July 2021 that an inquest found that she had been murdered by convicted child killer and rapist Robert Howard, who died in prison in 2015.

Arlene’s remains have never been found, despite numerous searches taking place.

Last month, a vigil was held to mark the 30 year anniversary of the disappearance of the Castlederg teenager.

The gathering, at Castlefinn Park, was attended by members of the Arkinson family alongside neighbours and friends.

At the vigil, Arlene’s sister Paula said the family will continue to search for answers and reiterated their calls for a public inquiry.

Meanwhile, Gardaí have confirmed that searches, which commenced in the Glenfin area yesterday, are ongoing.
