‘Search your children for fireworks’ urge gardaí

PARENTS are being urged to carry out regular searches of their children’s bags for fireworks.
The call comes from gardaí ahead of Halloween celebrations. They are warning against the illegal use of the product which causes great distress to older people, families and pets.
“Parents, please ensure that you know where your kids are and conduct regular searches of their bags for fireworks. Talk to your kids about the many dangers associated with fire works as many people sustain horrific burn related injuries at this time of year,” said a Garda spokesperson.
Igniting an illegal firework in any place, throwing an ignited firework at a person or property and possession of illegal fireworks with intent to sell or supply are all offences and severe penalties apply were you to be found guilty of these offences, including up to €10,000 fine and five years imprisonment.
If anybody has any information in relation to the sale or supply of illegal fireworks or if they wish to report any fireworks related matter, we ask them to contact gardaí in any of the 24/7 Garda Stations. These include Letterkenny Garda Station, which can be contacted by telephoning (074) 9167100, and Milford Garda Station on (074) 9153060.
Alternatively, information may be given by calling the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666 111.
