Seán Sailor Boyle, an icon among the community of Arranmore Island, turned 18 on Friday.
He celebrated first on Friday in Arranmore Day Centre for those friends who couldn’t make it to his second celebration the next day at Early’s Bar after Mass.
Seán has achieved incredible feats in the past couple of years, and is truly a role model for those who know him.
He trained and was awarded his Safety Training Card in his fourth year at secondary school at the age of 17. This included Sea Survival and
First Aid training, allowing him to work aboard a boat or ferry.
Following this, for his transition year work experience, Seán began working on the Arranmore Blue Ferry, like his father and two older brothers, and has been working there since.
For the past year, Seán Sailor has been working on a first aid handbook, titled ‘Seán’s Guide to First Aid’ for the Arranmore community.
This book included advice on how to deal with situations ranging from simple nosebleeds to heart attacks and broken bones. Seán raised an amazing €2,000 in aid of Donegal Down Syndrome from the sales of his book.
It’s clear Seán is a hardworking individual and an inspiration to all. We all wish him the best and hope he had an amazing 18th birthday with his friends and family.
