Darren Murphy confirmed that Sean O’Donnell will be leaving Finn Harps next month as he goes to America on a scholarship.
The Carndonagh man was sent off on what will now be his final appearance for the club in the 1-1 draw with UCD.
O’Donnell completed first year at ATU Donegal this year where he is studying Sports & Exercise course.
With the mid-season break coming now, O’Donnell will be suspended for the away game against Longford Town and he heads to the States shortly after.
“It is a sending off and I have no problem with it,” Murphy said after the game.
“And on that, it’s probably Sean’s last game for the club because he heads to America on a scholarship on the fourth of July.
“It’s a sad end for Sean but I’m delighted the boys were able to dig him out, I wouldn’t want the kid leaving with that burden on his shoulders.
“Sean has been brilliant for me and the club but he’s a young boy and I’m not going to stand in his way, it’s a magnificent opportunity and everyone in there wishes him well and hopefully when he gets a break he’ll come home and see us.”
“But I’m delighted for him to get that opportunity and that it didn’t end on a sour note for him because he’s a real good kid.”
