Sean McGinley selected for European U23 Championships

Sean McGinley has been selected on the 32-person Ireland squad to represent the country at the 2023 European U23 Championships in Finland this month.

The Finn Valley athlete will compete in the 3000m steeplechase at the championships held in the Leppävaara Stadium in the city of Espoo from the 13th to the 16th of July.

The DCU student has had these championships on his radar for a number of months and after winning the 1500m Junior title at the National Junior and U23 Indoor Championships in Athlone in January, he began focusing on the 3000m steeplechase going forward rather than the 1500m.

A time of 8:58 was the European qualifying standard time the Glenswilly man needed to hit and he bettered that when winning at the Irish Universities Championships at Dundrum South Dublin AC in a time of 8:56.90, a new IUAA and DCU record.
