FOLK musician Sean Keane and Gaoth Dobhair’s Eve Belle are among the acts set to perform at the Balor Arts Centre this weekend.
Hailing from the village of Caherlistrane near Tuam, Sean Keane was born into a musical family that also includes his sister Delores. Together with Frances Black amongst others, he was a founder member of the group Arcady.
His solo career burst into life with the release of the album All Heart No Roses in 1994.
It saw him dubbed the ‘greatest Irish musical find of the `90s’ by The London Independent and ‘the fastest rising star of the Irish music scene’ by The Irish Times while readers of Irish Music Magazine voted him Performer Of The Year in 1997/98.
Sean will take centre stage at the Balor tomorrow evening (Friday), accompanied by Pat Coyne on guitar and Fergus Feely on Mandocello.
Songs like I’ll Be There, You Are Loved and Whispered join favourites like Never Alone, Isle of Hope and Galway to Graceland on a set list that will also include some of his newest material.
Saturday night see the return of the Balor’s Ghostlight Sessions with Eve Belle, David Hope and Nik Pollock among the line-up.
Originally from Donegal, now based in Belfast, Eve Belle has been described by The Sunday Times as Ireland’s freshest pop voice. She released her debut album In Between Moments in October 2022 to much acclaim including a four star review from The Irish Times.
Since the release, Eve has found her way back to her lyrical roots, returning to a musical style which puts earnest emotion and honesty to the fore, with influences such as Julien Baker, Conor Oberst and Phoebe Bridgers.
Across her career she has performed across Ireland and the UK supporting artists including Hozier, Frightened Rabbit, Mick Flannery and Wyvern Lingo. Her cover of Coldplay’s Violet Hill was shared on social media by the band themselves, with the interpretation receiving praise from Chris Martin.
Clare man David Hope first appeared at The Balor last February where he opened for John Spillane. The audience were blown away by the beauty and depth of his songs, the almost sepia tone of his impressive voice and the raw elegance of his guitar playing and a standing ovation duly followed.
David has gigged extensively throughout Ireland and mainland Europe over the last 15 years. He comes to The Ghostlight Sessions fresh off the release of his latest album To The Sea.
You can see Sean Keane at The Balor at 8pm tomorrow evening, tickets €30.
The Ghostlight Sessions takes place the following night, admission €15.
