THE nurse from Glasgow who is being treated in a London hospital for ebola has strong family connections to Donegal where prayers are being offered for her return to health.
Pauline Cafferkey, who is 39 is a second cousin of internationally renowned goalkeeper Packie Bonner.
The family are from the Rannyhaul area between Kincasslagh and Annagry.
Ms Cafferkey’s grandmother was Annie Sharkey, who was a sister of Packie Bonner’s mother.
The public health nurse, who has just returned from Sierra Leone, has many relatives living in and around the Kincasslagh area.
Ms Cafferkey is receiving specialist treatment via a quarantine tent at the Royal Free Hospital in north London.
Ms Cafferkey, who flew to Glasgow via Casablanca and London Heathrow, was flown to RAF Northolt in an air force plane after leaving Glasgow in a convoy.
Passengers on flights she took to the UK are being traced, but officials say the risk to the public is very low.
Ms Cafferkey was part of a group of up to 50 NHS healthcare workers who returned to the UK at the weekend after volunteering in Sierra Leone.
